Kyriakos Attounis - Synthetic Biology competition
Ο Σύλλογος Xenion Alumni παρουσιάζει με μεγάλη υπερηφάνεια την παγκόσμια διάκριση που έλαβε η ομάδα του αποφοίτου του σχολείου Κυριάκου Αττούνη στην μεγαλύτερο διαγωνισμό Συνθετικής Βιολογίας στον κόσμο!
Συγκεκριμένα, ο Κυριάκος με την ομάδα συμφοιτητών του στο Kings’ College London, όπου σπουδάζει Μοριακή Γενετική (3ο έτος), βραβεύτηκαν με ΧΡΥΣΟ ΜΕΤΑΛΛΙΟ στον Παγκόσμιο Διαγωνισμό Γενετικής Μηχανικής και Βιοτεχνολογίας iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine). Στον ίδιο διαγωνισμό διακρίθηκαν και με το Βραβείο Καλύτερης Θεραπείας μέσω Συνθετικής Βιολογίας.
Ο Κυριάκος Αττούνη παρουσίασε χθες το βράδυ στο δελτίο ειδήσεων του Σίγμα την ομάδα του "Renervate" από το πανεπιστήμιο του King's College του Λονδίνου, η οποία εργάστηκε για να προσφέρει μια νέα θεραπεία, με τη χρήση της βιο-αρχιτεκτονικής, για τον τραυματισμό της σπονδυλικής στήλης. Δήλωσε ότι υπάρχει μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον από εταιρίες για υλοποίηση της θεραπευτικής πατέντας ενώ η ομάδα του βρίσκεται σε στάδιο εργαστηριακών δοκιμών για την προώθηση της θεραπείας, η οποία δίνει ελπίδα σε άτομα που τραυματίζονται στη σπονδυλική στήλη και κινδυνεύουν με αναπηρία.

Xenion Alumni is very proud to present the global distinction received by the team of Xenion Alumnus Kyriakos Attounis in the largest Synthetic Biology competition in the world!
Specifically, Kyriakos and his group of fellow students at King's College London, where he is studying Molecular Genetics (3rd year), were awarded a GOLD MEDAL at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) International Competition in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. In the same competition, they were distinguished with the Award for Best Therapy through Synthetic Biology.
Kyriakos Attouni presented last night in the Sigma Channel news bulletin the "Renervate" team from King's College University in London, which worked to offer a new treatment, using bio-architecture, for spinal cord injury column. He said that there is great interest from companies for the implementation of the therapeutic patent while his team is in the stage of laboratory tests to promote the treatment, which gives hope to people who are injured in the spine and are at risk of disability.
